Five Guys now in Waterford

Burger restaurant chain Five Guys, famous for customizable burgers, opened in Waterford today.

The chain has grown rapidly, opening several locations weekly across the US. I took Mom and Mark to the Waterford one for lunch today.

Having had Five Guys before, I knew what to expect, having had good burgers before. Let's just say I was not dissapointed at all. They offer complimentary peanuts that you can have while waiting for your burger. Also you can get either regular fries or Cajun fries in either regular size or large size, no value meals here.

They are in the Waterford Place shopping mall on M-59 near Cresent Lake Road.

Prince Fielder now in Detroit

Yesterday, MLB player Prince Fielder signed a nine year deal to play with the Detroit Tigers after leaving the Milwaukee Brewers for free agency.

The news came days after learning that Victor Martinez will not be playing this season due to a torn ACL, in which placed the Tigers as a surprise contender for the second most-coveted free agent after Albert Pujols went to the Aniheim Angels.

This means he will play for the team that, interestingly enough, his father Cecil Fielder played for in the early 90s.

Super Bowl XLVI preview

On February 5, the New York Giants and the New England Patriots will play in Indianapolis, Indiana for the Super Bowl, in a rematch of their meeting in Super Bowl XLII in 2008, won by the Giants.

The Giants overcame a 7-7 record by winning their last two games of the season, then winning against the Atlanta Falcons, Green Bay Packers, and the San Fransisco 49ers to represent the NFC, while the Patroits won the AFC East division and beat the Denver Broncos and the Baltimore Ravens to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl.

This is a rematch of Super Bowl XLII, which was made famous thanks to an incredible cartch by David Tyree, which would eventually prevent the Patriots from a perfect season at the time.

The game will be televised on NBC.

Save our Internet!

Imagine a world without Facebook, Google, Youtube, Twitter, and Wikipedia. Hard to imagine? Well it could happen, unfortunately.

The separate bills Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and Personal IP Protection Act (PIPA) are separate bills in the House of Representatives and Senate that are, in theory, designed to protect our entertainment industry from pirated content from foreign websites.

However to most people, and the aforementioned sites, it would ultimately harm the Internet, forcing huge site shutdowns and HUGE censorship policies, similar to China.

Currently sites like Reddit and the English-language Wikipedia are blacked until midnight to protest the bills. Additionally, Google has it's logo blackened, leading to a petition that people are encouraged to sign to make sure that the bills don't pass.

Yes, I love America, but when Congress wants to ruin the Internet? Not so much.

LHS hockey game results!

A hockey game between the Lakeland Eagles and the Howell Highlanders had finished with Howell winning 2-0, scoring a goal each in the first two periods of the game.

While it was a disappointment, it was also nice to see Jake Waxman, who is a student manager at Lakeland twice; once during the chuck a puck, which is where fans purchase a puck with a number on it for $1 and chuck them towards the center of the ice, where the closest puck to the cone wins the fan the money that was collected, after the 2nd period where he had to determine the winner because there were 3 pucks were close to the cone (he picked #10), and gathered most of the pucks afterwards, and also after the game, where he and I chatted for a few minutes, and he told me he has a Gmail account and might start blogging here soon.

Also, the winner of the 50-50 raffle drawing held after the chuck a puck did a nice thing with the money by giving the money back to the LHS hockey program.

New year!

Well, it's now officially 2012. This is an important year for many reasons.

First, the Summer Olympics are this year in London, England. This is the third time London is hosting the Olympics.

Second, the Super Bowl will be in Indianapolis, Indiana; before the teams are decided, the Detroit Lions are in the NFL playoffs for the first time since 1999.

Lastly, this is the year the Mayan Long Count Calendar ends on December 21. While there are rumors that the Mayans predicted that day to be the end of the world, it's not, as the inscriptions that describe the day don't show the end of the world happening.

While there are certainly more events in 2012, these are 3 events that I think are important in my opinion.
