Weekend in Sports synopsis

The Detroit Lions suffered their second loss of the season yesterday losing to the Atlanta Falcons 23-16 at Ford Field.

The Texas Rangers lost to the St. Louis Cardinals in the World Series 16-7 on Saturday, putting the Cardinals up 2 games to 1 before Texas won yesterday 4-0 tieing the series at 2 heading into tonight's game in Arlington.

The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series was at Talledega yesterday for the Good Sam Club 500, the 5th race in the Chase for the Sprint Cup. The race was won by Clint Bowyer, who held off Richard Childress Racing teammate Jeff Burton in the tri-oval on the last lap. A multi-car wreck on lap 104 damaged the title hopes of Kevin Harvick and Kyle Busch, while Kurt Busch, Kyle's brother, called his championship hopes "done." When the race finished, Carl Edwards lead Matt Kenseth in the points standings by 14 points, as the Chase heads to Martinsville Speedway in Virginia this Sunday. Defending Sprint Cup champion Jimmie Johnson is 7th in the standings 50 points behind Edwards the week after the 48 team took a huge hit in the standings at Charlotte with a huge wreck.
